Since its introduction, augmentation mammoplasty has gained widespread popularity. Still, complication such as implant ruptures, seromas, hematomas, decreased sensation, capsular contractures and so on can occur after surgery. Compare to other complications, wound infection after augmentation mammoplasty is rare but still devastating. S. aureus is most common organism of infection, which can be developed into staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome. Management options such as broad spectrum antibiotics followed by surgical interventions, for example implant removal, massive irrigation and proper debridement, are essential. Early detection of the infection sign is important but use of prophylactic antibiotics could make it hard to identify the organism. In refractory case we should consider some rare causes of wound infection such as tuberculosis, fungal infection and so on. We recently experienced a case of serious wound infection following implant insertion which failed to be controlled in early stage and developed into sepsis, and report this case to share our experience.
